Parent Support Group

The Parent Support Group (PSG) organizes events and activities that promote and support CPSA. The following are some of the current activities for the 2011-2012 school year:

1. Mothers Walking Club: As part of our health and fitness initiative, all moms are welcome to join us for a 30-minute walk every Tuesday morning at 8am. Moms do not need to be a part of the PSG to join us. Locations will be announced via email or EdLine. All non-student children are welcome.

3. Hot Lunch: The school lunch is our most important ongoing project! During the last school year, the lunch menu was diligently worked on to make it more healthy and nutritious. We use ingredients from scratch, whole wheat pasta, portion-control to include a variety of nutritious foods per meal. Please support the lunch program as this is an integral part of the school system. A volunteer is also needed for every Thursday to assist the lunch staff; please contact Lubna Zaffer for more information at (630) 244-5627, or via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 4. School Grants: We have organized a committee that is working actively on researching and applying for grants. Alhamdulillah, we were awarded a $5,000 grant last year from the IL Department of Public Health; the funds from the CATCH (Coordinated Approach To Child Health) grant are being used for the Physical Education (gym) program. Funds were also used last year to host our first annual Family Fitness Night. Insha'Allah, we are looking forward to organizing our second such event later this year. For more information regarding grants, please contact Sameera Sattar at (630) 776-6168 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 5. Box Tops: These small certificates/coupons can be found on many name brand products. Each coupon equals to 10 cents that General Mills donates to the school. Please be sure to clip these box tops and have your child turn them in to their homeroom teacher. There is also a collection container in the copy center downstairs. Box Tops also has a marketplace online at www.boxtops4education.com that features many top retailers; by shopping online, CPSA earns a percentage of your purchase. For more information, please contact Lubna Ahmed at (773) 501-0810, or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

6. Recycle your Empty Ink Cartridges and Used Cell Phones: Drop off your recyclable items in the collection box located in the copy center downstairs; our school can earn up to $35 per donated item! Cartridges and cell phones are sent to the Funding Factory to earn points that can be used as cash for the school, or to purchase necessary supplies. Please visit www.fundingfactory.com for more information, or contact Lubna Ahmed at (773) 501-0810, or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Other: The PSG has organized many other events and programs within the school such as the Carson Pirie Scott Community Day Fundraiser, Mother / Daughter Night, Chuck-e-Cheese Night, Staff Appreciation Week, Junior Achievement, Scratch Card Fundraiser, and most recently, the Spell Check Fundraiser, which raised enough funds to purchase projectors for each of the Elementary classrooms!

8. PSG Monthly Meetings: The PSG welcomes you to join our meetings to contribute your ideas and talents to better our school. Meetings will be held monthly, and on an as needed basis. All meeting dates and activities will be posted regularly on EdLine, and reminder emails will be sent.
