Foreign Language

iqraForeign language study makes its greatest contribution to the intellectual and cultural development of the student. Its study involves a gradually expanding and deepening knowledge of the student’s first language, which is in most cases English. Language learning is a progressive activity; the longer the sequence of study, the better the acquisition of the skill. CPSA offers Arabic as a foreign language. It provides the student with the primary key to understanding and appreciating Islamic culture. The student will acquire an appreciation and understanding of the Holy Quran. Three credits in Arabic language are required for graduation.

Urdu is offered as an elective course particularly to those students whose parental background is from the Indo-Pak subcontinent.

Arabic Level - Iarabic

Letters and shapes of letters (Beginning, middle, final) will be introduced. Soft & hard letters, joining letters, reading words, short sentences, sun letters & moon letters, Hamza Qate & Hamza wasl are stressed.  Readings include short stories and ayat from the Quran.

Arabic Level - II

Continuation of skills learned in level 1 with an emphasis on communication, and Arab culture. More vocabulary and grammatical structures will be studied such as: Nouns, Verbs, Masculine, Feminine, Singular, Dual, Plural, Suffixes, Prefixes, Prepositions, and the three cases: Nominative case, Accusative case, and Genitive case.

Arabic Level - III

In this accelerated course, students will be taught advanced rules of grammar along with substantial new vocabulary. Their previous Arabic skills will be used to help them converse and write in Arabic. By the end of the course, students will be able to read short stories, write short essays and feel comfortable in conversing in Arabic. The medium of instruction is Arabic.

Arabic Level - IV (Honors)calligraphy

This is an advanced Arabic program in which the student will learn how to write short stories and essays on topical issues. Students will also be able to speak the language fluently, as the medium of instruction will be strictly Arabic. This will enhance their ability to understand the Quran and Hadith. Along with reading and writing skills, the students will also be encouraged to broaden their horizons by reading newspapers, journals and magazines so that they develop a taste for the living Arabic language.
