Highlights from the 2010-2011 School Year

PSAT - (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)

  • 9 STUDENTS SCORED ABOVE 205; Top Score 228 out of 240
  • Three students projected to be finalists, another two students projected to receive commendations
  • 6% of the CPSA Juniors scored in the Top 1% Nationally
  • 11% of the CPSA Juniors scored in the Top 2% Nationally
  • 23% of the CPSA Juniors scored in the Top 5% Nationally
  • 31% of the CPSA Juniors scored in the Top 10% Nationally
  • 49% of the CPSA Juniors scored in the Top 25% Nationally
  • Two CPSA students received National merit scholarships. Omar Almasri received the National Merit University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Scholarship, and Mohammad Aleem received the National Merit Loyola University Chicago Scholarship. National Merit Scholarship is the most prestigious award that high school students can receive. Only 8,000 students out of almost two million students who take PSAT/NMSQT receive national merit scholarships.

SAT & SAT Subject Tests

  • Top Score 2290 out of 2400
  • Average score for seniors is 1968 (more than 400 points higher than the national or state average)
  • Two students received three perfect scores (800 out of 800) in Math, Math Level 2 and Physics

ACT

  • Top Score 35 out of 36
  • Average score is 28 (more than 6 points higher than the national or state average)
  • 37% of seniors have a score of 30 or higher (Top 5% nationally)
  • 40% of seniors have a score of 28 or higher (Top 10% nationally)

AMC 8 (JH)

  • 1 Merit (perfect score 25 out of 25), 2 Distinction (20 - 24), and 3 Honor (17 - 19)
  • Yunus Syed became a State Champion with a perfect score.

  • 2 winners, 1 student advanced to the AIME level, 1student scored 96

Advanced Placement (AP)

  • 24 AP Scholars
  • 1 national scholar (received an average score of 5 in 9 AP subjects), 7 scholars with distinction (received an average score of 3.5 or higher in 6 to 7 AP subjects), 8 scholars with honor (received a score of 3.25 or higher in 4 to 6 AP subjects), and 8 scholars (received an average score of 3 or higher in 3 to 5 AP subjects)

  • 29 Gold medals

  • 2 Award of Excellence and Achievement Awards

Illinois State Science Fair

  • 5 Gold medals

Talent Pool

  • More than 100 students (3rd through 8th grades) qualify to participate in Midwestern Academic Talent Search conducted by Northwestern University; these students perform at a 90th or higher percentile in standardized tests

WYSE

  • 1st place in Sectional, Regional (recipient of highest number of top awards), and 2nd in State levels
